How Updates Work for an App Installed From an APK

An app from an app store updates itself overnight and you never think about it. An app installed from an APK file does not. GoPlay11 and Drem both distribute their Android apps as APKs from their own sites, not through a store, so every Android user of either meets this sooner or later. Here is what actually happens when such an app is updated, and why the error messages say what they say.

Why there is no automatic update

On Android, whatever installed an app is responsible for updating it. When a store installs an app, the store keeps checking for new versions. When you install a file through your browser, the browser is the installer, and a browser does not go looking for new versions of anything. The app is on its own.

So you learn about a new version in one of two ways: the app shows a notice when you open it, or the platform announces it on its site or official channels. Which of these GoPlay11 uses was not checked for this guide.

What an update actually is

An update is simply a newer APK with the same identity as the app you already have. Android checks three things before it lets one replace the other.

CheckWhat Android comparesIf it fails
Package nameThe app’s internal ID must matchThe file installs as a separate app
SignatureThe new file must be signed with the same developer keyThe update is refused
VersionThe new file must not be older than the installed oneThe update is refused

When all three pass, Android replaces the program and keeps its data. Nothing in your account is touched, because the account lives on the platform’s servers and not on the phone.

Updating, step by step

  1. Open the platform’s own site in the browser you used the first time.
  2. Download the current APK from its download option.
  3. Open the file. Android offers Update where it offered Install before.
  4. If asked, allow your browser to install apps. You can switch that off again afterwards.
  5. Tap Update, then Open.

There is no need to uninstall first. Uninstalling works too, but it wipes the app’s data on the phone and you sign in from scratch.

What the error messages mean

MessageUsual causeWhat to do
“App not installed”Too little free storage, or an incomplete downloadClear some storage, discard the file and fetch a fresh copy
“Package conflicts with an existing package”The signature differs from the installed appStop, and check where the file came from
“There was a problem parsing the package”A damaged download, or a phone too old for the new buildDownload again on a stable connection; if it persists, use the mobile site
A Play Protect warningGoogle’s scanner does not know the app, or has flagged itGo on only if you are certain the file came from the platform’s own site

The exact wording differs between Android versions and phone makers. The causes are the same.

A signature mismatch is a warning

The signature check is the most useful protection you have. Only the developer holds the signing key. If Android says a new file conflicts with the installed app, then either the file was not made by that developer or the app on your phone was not. A file from a chat group, a “mod” site or a look-alike page fails in exactly this way.

Do not uninstall the original to force the new file in. That removes the very check that just protected you. Go back to the platform’s own site and download again.

There is an innocent cause as well. Now and then a platform changes how it packages its app and asks everyone to reinstall. If so, it will say that on its own site and official channels. A stranger in a chat saying so is not confirmation; the article on fake support accounts explains why.

How to see which version you have

  1. Open Settings, then Apps.
  2. Choose the app from the list.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the App info screen. The version is shown there.

This guide lists no current version number for GoPlay11 or Drem. None was published on the public pages, and a number printed here would be out of date within weeks.

Do you have to update?

Often an older version keeps working for a while. Sometimes a platform retires it, and the app refuses to load until you update. If an app that worked yesterday will not open today, a pending update is one of the first things to check. The mobile site is never out of date, which makes it the fallback while you sort the app out.

On an iPhone

None of this applies. There is no APK for iPhone. Safari opens the mobile site (add an icon to the home screen if you like), and it is current every time it loads.

The same at Drem

Drem distributes its Android app in the same way, so the steps and the checks are identical: a newer file from Drem’s own site, installed over the old one. The first install is covered in the GoPlay11 download guide. If an update leaves you signed out, see the GoPlay11 login guide.

That both apps are APKs from the platforms’ own sites was checked on 13 October 2026. The Android behaviour described is general, and menus differ slightly between phone makers.

Frequently asked questions

Does the GoPlay11 app update automatically?

No. It is installed from an APK and not from an app store, so nothing updates it in the background. Updating is manual: get the newer APK from GoPlay11’s own site and let it replace the one you have.

Do I need to uninstall the old app before updating?

No. Opening a newer APK from the same developer offers Update and keeps the app’s data. Uninstalling first also works, but it clears the data stored on the phone.

Why does Android say the package conflicts with an existing package?

Because the new file is signed with a different key from the installed app. That usually means the file did not come from the same developer. Do not force it; download again from the platform’s own site.

Will updating the app delete my account or balance?

No. The account is held on the platform’s servers, not in the app. An update replaces the program on the phone. At most you may need to sign in again.
